Lady Chapel

A gift from Mr Justice William O’Brien in 1875, the Lady Chapel was constructed in one of the mews buildings of 86 Saint Stephen’s Green. A statue of Our Lady rises above the altar. She is being assumed into Heaven supported by two angels on a cloud. On the left nave wall, three stained glass windows depict The Nativity, The Adoration of the Magi and The Boy Christ among the Doctors in the Temple. The chapel is built in the Gothic-style and is markedly different from the Byzantine Romanesquestyle favored by Newman and Pollen.

Return to the church and turn right down the side aisle. Look above you at the painted ceiling and murals around the body of the church.
