Ecclesiasticus 3:17-24 | Behave humbly, and then you will find favour with our Lord.

A reading from the book of Ecclesiasticus​​​​​

My child, be gentle in carrying out your business,

and you will be better loved than a lavish giver.

The greater you are, the more you should behave humbly,

and then you will find favour with the Lord;

for great though the power of the Lord is,

he accepts the homage of the humble.

Do not try to understand things that are too difficult for you,

or try to discover what is beyond your powers.

Concentrate on what has been assigned you,

you have no need to worry over mysteries.

Do not meddle with matters that are beyond you;

what you have been taught already

exceeds the scope of the human mind.

For many have been misled by their own presumptions,

and wrong-headed opinions having warped their ideas.

The word of the Lord. 

Keep my soul in peace before you, O Lord. | Psalm 130

O Lord, my heart is not proud,

Nor haughty my eyes.

I have not gone after things too great

Nor marvels beyond me. ​R.

Truly I have set my soul

In silence and peace.

A weaned child on its mother's breast,

Even so my soul.​R.

O Israel, hope in the Lord

Both now and for ever.

Peter 4:7-11| Each on of your has received a special grace, so put yourselves at the service of others.

Everything will soon come to an end,

so, to pray better, keep a calm and sober mind.

Above all, never let your love for each other grow insincere,

since love covers over many a sin.

Welcome each other into your houses without grumbling.

Each one of you has received a special grace, so,

like good stewards responsible for all these different graces of God, put yourselves at the service of others.

If you are a speaker,

speak in words which seem to come from God;

if you are a helper,

help as though every action was done at God's orders;

so that in everything God may receive the glory,

through Jesus Christ,

since to him alone belong all glory and power

for ever and ever. Amen.

The word of God is alive and active; it can judge secret emotions and thoughts. Alleluia!

It has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom | Luke 12:32-24 

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

Jesus said to his disciples:

“There is no need to be afraid, little flock,

for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom.

‘Sell your possessions and give alms.

Get yourselves purses that do not wear out,

treasure that will not fail you,

in heaven where no thief can reach it

and no moth destroy it.

For where your treasure is,

there will your heart be also.
